In September 2020, the new European regulation EN 1335-1:2020 published by the CEN came into force to update the requirements for office seating solutions. In particular, it focuses on the dimensional measurements and requirements to classify the chair in type A, B or C.
Aware of these important changes, Ivars was the first company in Italy, and among the first in Europe, to equip itself, starting from 27/11/2020, with adequate instrumentation and specifically trained staff to ensure components suitable for the criteria set out in the new UNI EN 1335-1:2020.
The main change introduced by this regulation concerns the method of determining measurements, for which the international legislation ISO 24496:2017 has to be taken as a reference. In particular in type A certification, it provides much stricter and more difficult requirements to meet compared to the previous one, requiring the use of a new measuring machine with specialized staff, and best performing standard, especially for the armrest adjustment, the increased gas lift stroke and slider seats.
Thus UNI EN 1335-1:2020 regulation has become a national transposed rule to all intents and purposes and, together with UNI EN 1335-2:2018, it is the reference standard for determining compliance with the D.Lgs.81/2008 for health and safety at the workplace.
Guaranteeing compliance, following the ergonomic, performance and safety requirements for produced and marketed office chairs, is therefore an essential prerequisite to ensure working conditions suitable for the protection and safety of the chairs’ users.
